2008 Award Categories

Awards will be presented in five categories in 2008 - three for businesses, one for public, nonprofit & academic organizations, and for the first time, for individuals.

Nominations are now closed. Finalists will be publicly announced on or about October 1. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Raleigh Convention Center on November 10.


TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE AWARD recognizes initiatives by for-profit businesses that demonstrate the successful integration of social, environmental and economic objectives. Evidence of committed leadership, sustained effort, and measurable results will be key in the selection of the award winner.

INNOVATION AWARD recognizes initiatives by for-profit businesses that demonstrate new cuttng edge technologies or business models that address societal and/or environmental issues in a meaningful way. Creativity, measurable results and the potential for broad impact will be key in the selection of the award winner.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARD recognizes small for-profit and for-benefit businesses that demonstrate a positive impact on their employees, community and environment. Creative leadership, sustained effort, and measurable results will be key in the selection of this award.

THE GREATER GOOD AWARD recognizes initiatives by non-profits, government agencies and educational institutions that demonstrate leadership in promoting and enabling sustainable practices in the state. Broad positive impact, sustained effort and effective leveraging of resources will be key in the selection of this award.

SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPION AWARD recognizes an individual North Carolinian who has made a unique and significant contribution toward creating an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable future. (New for 2008!)
